The kitchen is usually the single most expensive room in a home renovation, and cabinetry is the reason. Two kitchens of identical size can differ by three times in price depending on the cabinets, worktop and whether anything moves. Here is where the money actually goes in a Dubai kitchen renovation.
Price ranges by scope
Kitchen pricing is driven by cabinetry quality and whether the layout changes. Broadly:
- Refresh (doors, worktop, splashback, paint, existing layout): roughly AED 15,000 – 30,000
- New kitchen, same layout: roughly AED 30,000 – 70,000
- New kitchen, new layout (moving sink/hob, new plumbing and electrical): roughly AED 60,000 – 150,000+
Where the money goes
In a typical Dubai kitchen, the cost splits roughly like this — and cabinetry dominates:
- Cabinetry — the largest line item by far. Melamine and laminate at the affordable end; lacquer, veneer and solid timber at the premium end.
- Worktop — laminate is cheapest, then quartz (the popular middle), then natural stone and porcelain at the top.
- Appliances — a huge range depending on brand and specification, and largely your choice.
- Plumbing and electrical — modest if nothing moves, significant if the sink, hob or layout changes.
- Tiling, splashback and finishing — smaller but not trivial.
Decisions that drive the price
A few choices account for most of the variation between quotes:
- Cabinet material and finish — the single biggest lever. Handleless and lacquer finishes cost more than standard laminate.
- Worktop material — quartz vs natural stone vs porcelain is a real budget swing.
- Moving the sink or hob — triggers plumbing and electrical rework and often affects the worktop.
- Tall units and full-height storage — more material and labour than base-and-wall runs.
- Integrated appliances — cleaner look, but needs cabinetry built around them.
Open-plan and knocking through
Opening a kitchen into a living area is popular but adds cost and complexity. If the wall is structural, it needs engineering and possibly a beam — a significant job, not a quick knock-through. Even a non-structural wall means making good the ceiling, flooring and MEP across the joined space. Factor this in early rather than as an afterthought.
How long it takes
A kitchen refresh takes about 1 to 2 weeks. A full kitchen replacement in the same layout usually runs 3 to 5 weeks, much of which is cabinetry lead time. Changing the layout adds time for plumbing, electrical and making good. Custom cabinetry in particular has a manufacturing lead time that cannot be rushed.

Why are kitchen quotes so different from each other?
Almost always the cabinetry specification. A quote using basic laminate carcasses and doors will be far cheaper than one using lacquer or veneer with soft-close everything. Compare the cabinet material, hinge and runner quality, and worktop before comparing the totals.
Can I keep my existing cabinets and just change the doors?
If the carcasses are sound, replacing doors, worktop and handles is a cost-effective refresh. If the carcasses are water-damaged or poorly built, it is usually better to replace the whole kitchen.
How far in advance should I order a kitchen?
Cabinetry has a manufacturing lead time, so the kitchen should be designed and ordered well before demolition, so it is ready to install once the space is prepared.
